Our journey around the world

After our arrival in Maui we as usual took over our rental car. Because of the good weather forecast we decided to upgrade to a convertible. When Roni saw that it was possible to get a Ford Mustang, he decided to explore the island with it. Unfortunately the only car which was ready had a broken fuel gauge. But the decision was made, because of that the staff in duty had no other choice then to prepare another Mustang for us.

The next day we slept a bit longer then usual. Following we visited the nearby town Lahaina. It’s a bit touristic, but it’s really pretty. In the town we saw a lot of art galleries and restaurants. That’s anyway something really interesting. You see in all the towns here a lot of galleries; we have no clue who buys all this work of art.

The following day we dedicated to the humpack whales. In this days Maui is home to more than 10’000 humpback whales. We were for two hours on a boat trip and spotted a lot of whales. On the boat we met Brenda and Don from Lomax, Illinois. In there daily life they both steer a truck through the USA. Brenda has some pictures of here truck on here blog and she also mentions the boat trip with a nice Swiss couple :-). Have a look at your own: http://www.brensbusyhands.blogspot.com/.

Another msut-see on Maui is the road to Hana. On the way to Hana we passed more then 600 curves. From a lot of scenic points we had a great view on the many waterfalls and the beautiful coastline.

On our last day we visited the ‘Iao valley and the Haleakala national park. After a short drive into the valley we had the pleasure to see a rock pinnacle rising up more than 2’000ft. This pinnacle is the remnant of a collapsed volcano. The national park we visited, to put our self in the place of our Swiss readers. You can believe us, we got really cold. Anyway, we enjoyed the view from the 10’000ft high summit.

Until the current point in time we consider Maui to be the highlight of our trip around the world. Everything was just great. The temperatures were pleasant, the landscape really green and luxuriant, the eating delicious (= broke da mout), the people friendly and the Mustang great.

    Roni and Yvonne,

It is wonderful to continue the travels with you since we met at Holualoa Inn on the Big Island.  We also stayed with Lonn at Hale Hualalai (same room) the two nights after you were there.  Sorry we missed you.
Wanted to let you know that our daughter, Erin, will be in Brazil...Feb 19-26. She knows you have her phone # and is expecting your call while you visit NYC.  You will surely be pleased with meeting her as we were with you.  Let me know if you need assistance in reaching her.  elizlmt@comcast.net is my email address.
